Cover Love: Top 5 Stunning Book Covers on My TBR
I have become a book dragon. My TBR has reached the point where I haven’t attempted to read anything, but I still keep buying more books. It has quite literally turned into a small hoard. Whenever I see a pretty cover, I need to buy it. I HAVE to add it to my collection. So, in honor of all other book dragons out there, here are the five covers that I feel are the prettiest in my TBR hoard, in no particular order.
1) Foul Lady Fortune by Chloe Gong
Summary: In 1930s Shanghai, a pair of spies is masquerading as a married couple attempting to solve a series of murders. As they try to unravel the conspiracy, the two spies find more horrifying layers to this mystery than they ever imagined.
Why I Picked It: This book was a surprise in my Scribbler subscription box. As soon as I opened the box, I fell in love. The light pink hues, the gorgeous bottle that has me wondering if it is perfume or poison. The foil accents help, too.
2) Curious Tides by Pascale Lacelle
Summary: After a near-death experience, Emory developed powers no healer should possess. As she looks into the deaths of her classmates, she attracts the attention of a secret society that may have had a hand in their deaths.
Why I Picked it: I am a silver girl. I love silver, and I especially love books with foil accents. The blue of the water is in stark contrast to the jet-black night. I am curious how the moon’s phases play a part in the story.
3) Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross
Summary: When two young rival journalists find love through a magical connection, they must face the depths of hell, in a war among gods, to seal their fate forever.
Why I Picked it: I love bright colors on solid black backgrounds. The wilted irises on the cover make me wonder about the outcome of the heroine of the same name. I wonder if she is the beacon of hope with the world on the brink of war.
4) A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik
Summary: No teachers, holidays, or friendships exist at the Schoolmance. There are only two ways you leave: graduation or death. El has to survive and learn to hone her dark power without killing any of her classmates
Why I Picked it: More black and more shiny. I think I am starting to see a pattern. This is one of the covers that has been in my TBR pile for quite a while. I am a sucker for a series, and this one advertises it right off the bat. The eye seems ominous like it is watching everything that is going on. I am excited to dive into another magic system.
5) Immortal Longings By Chloe Gong
Summary: Every year, thousands in the kingdom of Talin will flock to its capital twin cities, San-Er, where the palace hosts a set of games. For those confident enough in their ability to jump between bodies, competitors across San-Er fight to the death to win unimaginable riches.
Why I Picked it: The color contrast between the gold and black is stark and eye-catching. The text looks like runes, which is something I find very interesting. Then, the symmetry between the faces in the sky and ground and the decorations around it. Gorgeous! The cover caught my eye, but the description sold me.
So…I like shiny covers. I don’t know if that makes me a crow or a dragon. Do you have a specific design element that draws you in?
